Ballet inspired fashion

BCBG Tulle Petticoat, $158, in truffle, white and black

After work yesterday I headed to BCBG in search of the metallic pants I talked about here, and to my delight (and demise), the store was packed with equally amazing pieces!  My feelings for the line can sometimes sway dramatically from season to season, but their holiday collection is a definite hit!

I first saw the skirts above while at their editor's preview a few months ago, and immediately started searching ebay for similar ones, since I didn't want to wait for them to hit stores.  I love that these are longer though, than traditional tutus or petticoats, and the double tiers also set them apart.

I don't, however, like how they chose to style these on the website.  Below are the photos I took at the showroom preview, and I much prefer the cozy, casual sweaters they paired with the skirts here.  The thick, chunkiness of the cable knits juxtaposed with the light layers of tulle look fancy but comfortable and keep everything from becoming too frilly.

Ballet-inspired pieces were seen a lot during the Spring 2011 shows, so these skirts will easily transition once warmer temperatures hit.  There's also a ton of buzz surrounding the costumery in the new ballet thriller, Black Swan, which will only further the ballerina trend.

I think personally these appeal to my inner lust for a Carrie Bradshaw moment, but regardless of the reason, there's just something about tulle that is so charming, innocent, romantic and dreamy... Here are some more great images for inspiration...
