As temperatures drop in the city, I'm looking to up the pants quotient of my wardrobe and start layering blazers under my winter coats for extra warmth. Only problem, even though I love dress pants and tailored pieces, I hate the idea of looking like I'm wearing a suit, since I don't work in a traditional office environment.
Once again, I looked to photos of one of my style-crushes, Olivia Palermo, for some inspiration. I love the way she pairs the boxy, cuffed trousers with a more fitted blazer, to balance and feminize the look. My favorite part though, is the genius pop of color she adds with her yellow sandals. This color is a great compliment to the grey and is close enough to her skin tone that it actually works to extend the leg, rather than cut it off, like it would have had she gone with a more expected black pair.
Below are some of my picks for how to achieve the look yourself. I also included a more winter-appropriate version of the shoe, that still has that pop of color in the sole, but will keep you much warmer during the coming months!
