Cake ball truffles
Hope everyone had a great weekend! I capped mine off last night with a fun evening of catching up with my girlfriends and watching the SAG awards (err...red carpet). For the occasion, I decided to finally try my hand at a cake ball recipe I've had bookmarked for a few months now. These have become popular recently at several restaurants, including Momofuku Milk Bar, where I first tried them. The birthday cake flavor they sell is probably the most delicious thing I've ever tasted, so I decided to go for that one.
I followed this recipe loosely, as it's open for flavor interpretation. I used Funfetti cake mix and plain vanilla frosting for the base, with the only change being that I added extra sprinkles to the batter, since I remembered they were a crucial ingredient in making the Momofuku versions so delicious.
After baking the cake, I continued to follow the instructions for crumbling it, mixing in the frosting and forming my little truffle balls. Instead of dipping them in chocolate, however, I decided to coat them with a cupcake-flavored "Magic Shell" topping, that I came across at the store. It hardens when refrigerated, like the stuff you used to pour on your ice cream when you were little.
Once they were almost ready, I inserted these cute strawberry-frosted biscuits by Pocky, to be used as the serving sticks. Next time, I definitely want to try making the cake, frosting and coating from scratch, but I just couldn't resist the ease and convenience of these yesterday, and the final product was still quite delicious. They were the perfect Sunday treat!

In the third edition of my Valentine's Day outfit series (you can view the first two here and here) I decided to focus on an ensemble fit for the perfect girls' night out. Whether you're planning a low-key dinner or a wild night of drinking and dancing, this outfit is playful and chic, but still in the spirit of the holiday.
And even if V-Day is not your thing, you can certainly justify a love affair with these asymmetric pumps and leopard clutch from Zara–obsessed! Happy Friday everyone! xoxo

Outfit inspiration: bold brights

| Zara trousers, $59.50 |
Color blocking and mixing bold brights were huge on the runways and will be a major trend for Spring. You can wear these now (or once the snow melts) with nude pumps and neutral layered tops and then mix in some contrasting bright accessories and prints once the weather feels more appropriate.

DIY: destination boxes
![]() |
| Z Gallerie destination boxes, $119.80 |
While working on my previous home accessories post, I came across the above set of "books" from Z Gallerie, and thought they would make a nice addition. After closer inspection, however, I noticed they were actually clever little storage boxes disguised as books, and was immediately inspired to create my own DIY version.
Thankfully, I'm a bit of a hoarder, so I happened to have the perfect gift box saved from a set of champagne glasses I was sent months earlier, which I used as the base. If you're not quite as lucky to have one of these lying around, any cardboard cigar box will do the trick.
From there, I simply took measurements and designed the cover and sides using InDesign and Photoshop (feel free to email me if you'd like the templates). I then painted the back and edges of the box black and applied the cut-outs with rubber cement....and voila! Perfect storage for magazines, remote controls or anything else you'd like to keep hidden. I have an infatuation with Paris, so I chose to replicate the Z Gallerie cover exactly, but really any of your favorite book covers could work!
Pretty close to the Z Gallerie version eh? And for about $100 less! I can't wait to make the London and New York ones next to complete the set. Happy Hump Day everyone!

Outfit inspiration: curl up in camel
I'm getting a little tired of dedicating posts to the snow and miserable weather, but unfortunately that is the case outside again today, and I think it's conditions like these when we need the most outfit inspiration. I spoke about layered neutrals last month, and it seems camel is winning out as the color of the year. It was everywhere for Fall and definitely seems to have staying power.
I love how shades of camel and tan stand out from winter's ubiquitous black coat brigade, but are still basic enough to go with everything and be worn every day. For an even fresher take on the trend, try pairing camel with a bold color or neon, like in some of the photos below. Good luck staying warm everyone! xoxo

Photo Genius: Sølve Sundsbø
Hope everyone had a great weekend! To bring some inspiration and color to an otherwise cold and blah Monday, I thought I'd share some images from another one of my favorite photographers, Sølve Sundsbø. After starting his career as an assistant to Nick Knight, it's no wonder he's gone on to become one of the most talented and innovative artists in the industry.
Although his style is extremely versatile, his images are easily distinguishable by their glossy, almost plastic-like feel–as though they've been digitally altered–but what's so amazing is that most actually haven't. Sundsbø practices a lot of old-fashioned techniques to get this signature finish. I love how his photos always push creative boundaries with imaginative set-ups and out-of-the-box concepts. Below are a few of my favorites...

Freebie Friday!
![]() |
| photo: Lanvin Spring 2011 via style.com, graphics: © Dream & Dress |
Once again, the weather is freezing and snowy here in the city and I thought it'd be a great day for another Freebie Friday!
Recently, I was contacted by French skincare brand, Caudalie, to try some of their cult favorite beauty products. I have to admit, when it comes to skincare, my routine is pretty non-existent. I've always found the myriad of products and information out there overwhelming, which has resulted in a regiment consisting of pretty much just Cetaphil face wash and the occasional gradual self-tanner. Although I've previously professed my love for glowing skin, I usually seek this effect from makeup, since the result is more immediate and I can instantly tell what works and what doesn't.
However, all this changed after trying the products from Caudalie! My skin is more luminous than it's been in years and I'm now a complete skincare convert. Their Beauty Elixer, in particular, has changed the finish on my skin dramatically! What I love about this spray (besides the rather addictive smell) is that it can be used while your makeup is already on—to set it, shrink your pores and make you look instantly radiant—without messing anything up. Sometimes my mineral foundation can look cakey after a few hours, but this quickly revives it and gives me a fresh, dewy glow.
Since most of us could use a skin pick-me-up this time of year, Caudalie has been gracious enough to give away not only the amazing Beauty Elixer, but also their super-moisturizing lip conditioner, to one lucky reader!
All you have to do is 'like' Dream & Dress on facebook or follow me on twitter to enter! Those of you who already do are automatically entered, and if you follow me on both, you’ll get two entries! To increase your chances of winning even more, comment on the facebook wall or 're-tweet' this on twitter, and each will count as an additional entry!
The contest closes this Monday, January 24th at midnight, so be sure to enter soon! The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Wednesday. Good luck everyone and thanks so much for your continuing support!
Have a great weekend!
xoxo

Outfit inspiration: Valentine's Day (Part II)
As I mentioned here, I'll be posting several different outfit options over the next few weeks based on varying takes of everyone's favorite Hallmark holiday. Today's feature was not part of my original plans (as I clearly do not share the sentiment) but was by special request from one of my most dedicated readers and closest friends, who shall remain nameless. So in honor of her and of Alanis Morissette fans everywhere, here's how to look chic while hating on love...
